Gluten-Free Hot Honey Bacon Pizza

For your Honey this Valentine’s Day, make this sweet pizza that has extra pizazz. Your family and friends will be buzzing about it for weeks! Purchase a shapeable crust or make your own gluten free pizza crust.

Most of the ingredients for this Gluten-Free (GF) Hot Honey Bacon Pizza are household staples or you can swap for ingredients you (or your Sweetie), likes best! Enjoy a special pizza for a special day!

Start by prepping the candied bacon and making the hot honey. Meanwhile, make the GF pizza crust and let it rise. Then shape it into a heart, mix the pizza sauce and add the toppings. Once fully assembled, simply bake the pizza until crust is crisp and cheeses have melted! Pizza!

Toppings
□ ⅓ cup organic pizza sauce, homemade or purchased
□ ¼ cup hot honey
□ 1-2 cups mozzarella cheese, freshly grated
□ ½ cup freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese
□ 1 tsp sea salt
□ 1 tsp black pepper
□ 1 tsp garlic powder
□ 1 tsp smoked paprika
□ 1 tsp dried oregano
□ 1 tsp dried basil
□ 1 tsp dried parsley
□ Virgin olive oil, for brushing

Candied Bacon Ingredients
□ 1 (8oz) package organic uncured bacon
□ 1 cup organic brown sugar
□ 1 tbsp pure maple syrup

Candied Bacon Directions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 400°F.

Step 2
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper then place a wire rack on it. Spray the rack with cooking oil so the bacon doesn’t stick.

Step 3
In a bowl, add the brown sugar and maple syrup then stir together.

Step 4
Roll a piece of bacon into the mixture and put it on the wire rack. Repeat for each strip of bacon, placing them slightly apart.

Step 5
Bake it on the top rack for 10-15 minutes,

Step 6
Using a fork or tongs, flip the pieces of bacon to the other side.

Step 7
Bake for another 10-15 minutes until the bacon is crispy and caramelized.

Hot Honey Ingredients
□ 1 cup raw honey
□ 1 tsp red pepper flakes
□ 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Hot Honey Directions
Step 1
Add the raw honey, red pepper flakes and apple cider vinegar to a saucepan.

Step 2
Simmer all ingredients then remove from heat.

Step 3
Let it cool completely before adding it to your pizza.

Dough ingredients
□ 3 cups gluten free 1-to-1 flour or pure organic gluten free flour
□ 1¾ cup warm water
Ensure that the water is warm and not cold or hot! This allows the yeast to activate fully with the sugar.
□ 1 packet rapid-rise yeast
You can use active dry yeast (for a longer rise time) or instant rapid yeast to skip the resting time since it actives faster.
□ 1 tbsp pure, raw honey (from a beekeeper!)
□ 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (grapeseed or coconut oil can also be used)
□ 1 tbsp arrowroot starch for thickening (all-purpose flour, starch or tapioca flour can also be used)
□ 1 tbsp flaxseed meal for binding (psyllium husk can also be used)
□ 1 tsp sea salt
□ ½ tsp garlic powder, optional

Dough Directions
Step 1
In a bowl, whisk together the warm water, honey, olive oil and yeast until fully combined.

Step 2
Let it sit for at least 5 minutes – until the yeast begins to activate and foam.

Step 3
Slowly add the flour, arrowroot, flaxseed meal, salt and garlic powder and use a spatula or wooden spoon to mix together until combined and a dough can be formed when pressed together
Note: if dough is too sticky, add a ½ cup of additional flour at a time.

Step 4
Using your hands, lightly knead the dough for about a minute to further work it so it forms a nice dough ball.

Step 5
To allow the dough to rest and rise a bit, formulate the dough into a ball and add it to a lightly greased bowl. Cover and let it sit for 20-25 minutes.

Pizza Assembly Directions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 475°F.

Step 2
Once the dough has rested and you are ready to make the pizza, either put the dough on a floured surface OR pm a lightly greased, with olive oil, pizza pan.

Step 3 – Floured Surface
Roll the dough into a thin circle using a rolling pin.

Step 3 – Pizza Pan (vented is best!)
Evenly press and flatten the dough into a flat circle.

Step 4 – Optional
Using both hands, gently shape the pizza into a heart.

Step 5
Crimp the edges of the dough together to hold the cheese and juices.

Step 6
If not already on one, place the pizza on a pizza pan.

Step 7
In a bowl, add the pizza sauce, hot honey and dry ingredients.

Step 8
Spoon a generous amount of the pizza sauce (½-¾ cups) over the top of the crust until evenly coated.

Step 9
Generously sprinkle on the mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheese until crust is fully covered in the middle, leaving space along the edges.

Step 10
Top with 2 cups of broken pieces of candied bacon.

Step 11
Lightly brush the tops of the edge of the crust with olive oil (sprinkle with parsley and thyme if desired!) to ensure that it turns a nice even color.

Pizza Baking Directions
Step 1
Make sure oven is finished preheating to 475°F.

Step 2
Place the pizza in the oven on the middle rack.

Step 3
Bake for 15-29 minutes or until the cheeses have melted and crust is crispy and golden brown.

Step 4
Once done, allow pizza to cool for a few minutes to let the cheese set.

Step 5
Serve and enjoy!
