Theme – Pollinators and their Floral Hosts in Kentucky
5-8 Year Old Division:
Theme:
- Portrays the relationship between a pollinator and a host flower
- Includes any special characteristics, such as pollen baskets, pollinator habitat (i.e., bumble bee colony), or butterfly habitat on the flower
Artistic Ability:
- Creates a neat and clean piece with recognizable subjects (not scribbles)
- Stays within the lines of the shapes/figures created
- Uses the entire canvas/poster/sheet of paper
- Level of skill demonstrated
- Free of spelling and grammar errors
Outreach:
- Educate the viewer about the importance of pollinators in Kentucky
9-11 Year Old Division:
Theme:
- Portrays the relationship between a pollinator and a host flower
- Includes any special characteristics, such as pollen baskets, pollinator habitat (i.e., bumble bee colony), butterfly or hummingbird habitat
Artistic Ability:
- Creates a piece with a creative subject that abides by the theme
- Elements of design or subject are proportional to the medium selected (paper, canvas, poster)
- Level of skill demonstrated
- Free of spelling and grammar errors
Outreach:
- Educate the viewer about the importance of pollinators in Kentucky
12-14 Year Old Division:
Theme:
- Original interpretation of theme
- Consider special adaptations of the pollinator you’ve chosen and its host flower or challenges to the pollinator and its host plant
Artistic Ability:
- Creates a piece with a creative subject that abides by the theme
- Elements of design or subject are proportional to the medium selected (paper, canvas, poster)
- Level of skill demonstrated
- Free of spelling and grammar errors
Outreach:
- Educate the viewer about the importance of pollinators in Kentucky
15-18 Year Old Division:
Theme:
- Original interpretation of theme
- Consider special adaptations of the pollinator you’ve chosen and its host flower (see criteria for suggestions)
- Consider including Kentucky efforts to promote these pollinators and their host flowers in high rights of ways, parks, school monarch gardens, etc.
Artistic Ability:
- Creates a piece with a creative subject that abides by the theme
- Elements of design or subject are proportional to the medium selected (paper, canvas, poster)
- Level of skill demonstrated
- Free of spelling and grammar errors
Outreach:
- Educate the viewer about the importance of pollinators in Kentucky
- Challenges the viewer to take action to preserve Kentucky pollinators
